The nose feminization procedure is an important part of the surgical gender affirmation process. It is one of the key steps in shaping a more feminine appearance to the entire face. The nose is one of those structures within the face that strongly emphasizes masculine features. Its central location greatly affects the overall gender perception of the face. It also has a major influence on the formation of the character of expression and on the display of emotion.

In the process of gender correction (FFS), a nose feminization procedure is not necessary for every patient. However, making the nose more feminine will make the entire face appear softer. Feminizing the nose makes the eyes optically larger and enhances the cheekbones. The result is a softening of the facial features that benefits the overall and natural look.

Rhinoplasty – what does it change about your appearance?

The shape, structure, and size of the nose are crucial to the gender perception of the face. The male nose has more prominent bones and is larger and wider than in a woman – this gives it a more massive appearance. The transition between the nose and forehead is sharp and pronounced, and the distance between the upper lip and nose is longer in genetic males than in females.

Women’s noses tend to be smaller and narrower. They are perceived as less prominent, with a small and sharply pointed tip. The nostrils are smaller, and the nose is usually straight or with a gentle curve.

Nose feminization – to feel more confident

FFS nose correction procedures allow for a consistently feminized appearance, which adds confidence and improves the self-perception of transgender people. We see that patients simply feel better in their own bodies.

Moreover, the introduction of changes in the appearance of the nose is also intended to harmonize its appearance with other structures of the face (forehead, jaws and chin), which also underwent feminization. Facial treatments carried out in our clinic give a consistent, proportional and typically feminine aesthetic effect. A delicate and regular profile appears, which naturally fits into the feminine appearance.

Before the procedure, together with the attending surgeon, we create an overview 3D visualization to show the effects of the planned procedure. In Timeless clinic we work with VECTRA XT system, which is equipped with a system of six independent cameras and specialized software for detailed design of the rhinoplasty procedure. Based on the images from the cameras a three-dimensional, fully interactive model of the patient’s face is created.

The surgeon, using the 3D device, can carry out many simulations and variants until a visualization satisfactory for the patient is obtained. The system gives the possibility to look at the face from any angle in front view, from the side (profile), from above. By using this technology you can accurately plan the final effect of feminization already at the consultation stage.

How does the nose feminization procedure work?

We take a highly individualized approach to each individual who wishes to achieve a more feminine appearance. Feminizing nose surgery is a highly personalized procedure based on an in-depth evaluation of the bones, skin, and cartilage structures of the nose. During FFS rhinoplasty, we not only focus on the aesthetic aspect, but we also consider the structure of the nose. This is important to avoid complications such as tissue collapse around the dorsum and tip of the nose. If necessary, we use the method of cartilage transplantation.

At Timeless, our nose feminization procedure is performed using a safe ultrasound method. With specially adapted Piezosurgery® tools, the procedure takes place without damaging the adjacent soft tissues. The method itself is very precise, so healing is faster and the procedure itself gives better results.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes approximately 3-4 hours. To give your nose and entire face a more feminine look and expression, we use the following nose correction techniques in subsequent stages of the procedure:

• Removing a small piece of cartilage and placing small sutures allows the tip of the nose to be narrowed or slightly elevated.
• Feminization of the profile is achieved by removing excess bone and cartilage at the base of the nose.
• Nasal bone narrowing is used when the nose root is too wide. It can then be reduced by cutting the bones on each side and bringing them closer toward the central axis of the nose.
• Narrowing and reduction of the nostrils is achieved by removing the base of the alveolar cartilage.

A slight upper lip lift is used to feminize the area between the nose and mouth. The surgeon makes a precise small incision in the skin just below the nose – this is called the bullhorn technique. In the next step, a narrow strip of skin is removed along with the subcutaneous tissue, but without interfering with the structure of the circular muscle of the mouth. This minor surgical modification slenderizes this area of the face and gives it a feminine delicacy.

Complementing the nose feminization procedure is a brow line correction, which visually softens the angle between the nose and forehead.

After surgery, it will take some time before the final result is visible. After the swelling and bruising has subsided, your nose will initially be slightly larger. It will also take some time for the skin to adjust to the new structure of the nose.

The specialized ultrasound method used at Timeless is safe and precise. It is a surgical technique that minimizes the impact on surrounding tissues and allows the lesions to heal quickly. The face needs some time to take on a natural look, but listening to the feedback of our patients, we see that the results of a nose and full face feminization procedure are usually visible sooner than they expected.
