Feminization of the eye area, blepharoplasty

The eyes, their contour and the tension of the skin around them, have a major impact not only on the appearance, but more importantly on achieving a feminine expression of the upper face. Eyelid plasty in FFS procedures involves correcting the amount and position of skin around the eyes and achieving proper skin tone. A feminine eye contour and smoothed skin help to achieve a youthful appearance of the eye area.

The skin around the eyes is thinner than in other areas of the face. It has fewer sebaceous glands and its internal structure is more sensitive to external factors. What’s more, each of the muscles and the skin covering them perform many micro-movements every day, which also affect their condition. This, combined with genetic factors, sun damage, stress and fatigue, makes the eyes and eyelids the first areas to show signs of aging. 

By the degree of skin tone around the eyes and eyelids, it is often easy to determine a person’s age at a glance. This is why, in order to achieve a youthful and fresh appearance, many people opt for eyelid plasty as part of FFS. It is not an essential procedure for facial feminization, but the effects associated with achieving a more feminine expression mean that it is often considered for upper face modifications.

What is the procedure of feminization eyelid plasty (blepharoplasty)?

This is a procedure to remove sagging and stretched skin under the eyes and around the eyelids (aka “drooping eyelids”). In some cases, with excess tissue, eyelid plasty is performed in conjunction with a forehead feminization procedure.

During upper eyelid surgery, the surgeon makes small incisions along the natural folds of skin and then separates the skin from the underlying muscle and fat tissue. The excess skin (which causes wrinkles) and fat (which gives the eyelids a “heavy” effect) is then removed or reshaped to create a more youthful appearance.

The extent of feminization of the eyes

An incision in the lower eyelids is made inside the eyelid margin. The fat pads causing the so-called “bags” under the eyes are then removed or modified. 

Wrinkles and so-called “crow’s feet” around the eyes can also be regenerated during the same procedure. A chemical peel is used for this purpose. Tension is improved and the result is elastic and resilient skin. 

In some cases, muscle tone of the lower eyelids may also be needed to achieve a feminine and youthful appearance. In that case, a small incision is made under the lower eyelashes, which, after minor modifications to the tissues, is then closed with micro stitches (they are removed 5-7 days after the procedure). 

Blepharoplasty can be performed in conjunction with forehead reconstruction or nasal feminization in the same procedure.
